Mr. W. Yatman, of London, is at the Central Hotel. . Mr. C. A. J. Bandrup, of Christchurch, is visiting Auckland. Colonel and Mrs. Noel Adams, of Clevedon, and Messrs. Thomas Smith (Melbourne), A. K. Wells, L. Sonnerdalc, both of Sydney, are at Hotel Cargen. Messrs. A. J. Murdoch and P. Fraser, M.P.'s, left for Wellington by the Limited express last night. Mr. R. J. Richards, the newlyappointed headmaster of Christ's College, Christehurch, left for New Zealand by the Tainui last week. Mr Frank Thompson, general manager of the Christchurch tramways, who is returning from a visit to England, is expected to reach Auckland on December 28. Mr. C. W. Collins has been nominated by tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College as a fellow for training m library science.' This nomination is under the terms of an offer by the Carnegie Corporation. Mr. R. Wtiheford, registrar of friendly societies, and deputy-superin-tendent of the National Provident Fund, is in Auckland on official business.
Mr. William Bryden, M.A., B.Se., mathematics and science master at the Christchurch Technical College, has been awarded an overseas research scholarship by the University of Edinburgh. He hopes io pursue research work in genetics while in residence, in Scotland. He has applied for leave of absence from March, 1932, until October, 1930. The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe left Wellington last night to pay official visits to Dannevirke, Patea, Hawera, Stratford and Marton TJieir Excellencies will also visit Wanoanui and Rotorua, where they have engagements to fulfil before going into residence at Government House, Auckland, for Christmas and the early part of the New Year.
