Auckland Round Table,

A meeting of the A.R.T. will be held at headquarters to-night. Final arrangements for the entertainment of the Hamilton visitors will be gone into, and other' important matters will be discussed.

Thanks. The . secretary of the League of Nations Union (Auckland branch) has written to Metropolitan Commissioner W. J. Holdsworth asking him to convey to the Rover Scouts who were present its sincere appreciation of the services they rendered at the meeting held in the Town Hall on the evening of Armistice Day as a disarmament demonstration.

... Glen Eden Activities. Of recent months tbc committee of the Glen Eden and Henderson troops have been turning their efforts towards the raising of finance. Last week there was a very good attendance at a social and dance, despite the fact that a political meeting was in progress nearby. The programme of dancing and competitions was enhanced by a bracket of songs rendered by Mrs. Percival, a recitation by Master Rowlands, and a pianoforte solo by Scout Lawrence.

At last month's social Commissioner A- Service was present to make a presentation of the association's Thanks Badge to Secretary D. Sissons. In a eulogistic speech Scoutmaster E. Hocken referred to the sterling work of Mr. Sissons, who had so capably filled the position of secretary to the group since its inception some seven years ago. In handing over the badge the Commissioner told the gathering that headquarters were extremely appreciative of the support accorded by the lay workers, and that he was delighted to find that Mr. Sieson's services were being recognised by the presentation of the Thanks Badge —the movement's highest award for services rendered.

Mount Albert Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the Mount Albert Scout Group was held in the Mount Albert Methodist Sunday School last Friday evening, writes the scribe. During the business meeting, under the chairmanship of Mr. A. F. Bennett, the reports, of the three sections of the group were given by Scoutmaster D. Hyde, Acting Rover Leader F. Monkman, and Cubmaster E. Yorke respectively. Commissioner A. J. Gaily gave a brief address. He explained the new organisation, and congratulated the group on its progress. Organising secretary A. V. Windsor, representing headquarters, apologised for the, unavoidable absence of Mr. Holdsworth, and gave a short talk on the moral that the more one puts: into anything the more one gets out of it. The secretary and treasurer reported on the group's activities, and read a balance-sheet wnlcn sliowed a very good credit balance, this mainly being due to the untiring efforts of the committee. The retiring committee was elected in toto, with the following additions:— Messrs. S. Dimery, P. Halliday, J. Reg. Walker, " Keith Holdsworth, W. Ryan, Cowdrey, and Rae. After the business meeting, jungle dances, and a play entitled " The Last Lollipop ".were given by the Cubs, knotting and ambulance displays by the Scouts, and two plays, "Robinson Crusoe" and "The. Lady of the Lake," by the Rovers. The last item on;the programme was a campfire scene by the group. This consisted of several songs sung by all the group, two'original recitations and a banjolin solo by the Scoutmaster. Supper concluded an evening which will be remembered by those attending as one of the most successful Scout functions yet held ■■ in Mount Albert.

Taupiri Troop. Scoutmaster A. Button was presented with his warrant on Thursday evening before a large number of parents of the boys in his newly-formed troop, writes a correspondent. The ceremony was performed by Commissioner Ward, who wa3 accompanied by representatives from various troops in the district.

No. 3 District. There was a good attendance of Scouters- of No. 3 District on Thursday, November 19, when the District Commissioner/Rev. R. J. Stanton, presided. Mr. C. Heath of Ellerslie Troop, and Mr. Thomas of Onehunga Town were elected District Scoutmasters, and the troops were- allotted as follows: Mr. Heath, Otahuhu, Panmure, Ellerslie, St. Aidan's, North Memorial, St. David's, St. Helier's, Kohimarama; Mr. Thomas, Onehunga Town, St. Peter's, Tahutamai, Epsom, Mount Smart, St. Mary's'.' Mrs. A. E. M. Roughton was re-elected District Cubmaster. Mr. R. Davies and Mr.. A. E. Berry were elected to represent the Scouters on the District Committee. The meeting then proceeded to form- a Scouters' Association and to draw up a constitution and rules. Mr. A. E. Berry was elected secretary, and Mr. Mills treasurer. The association will meet on the third Wednesday in the month at headquarters at 7.30 p.m., and the next meeting will be held on December 16, when Mr. Walker will give a paper on "Camping." Congratulations were extended to Mr. Walker upon his appointment as D.C.C., and to Mr. Tribble as Commissioner of No. 6 District. . Commissioner Tribble extended an invitation to the Scouters of No. 3 District to join with those of No. 6 District at an informal meeting to be held at Papakura on December 12, following the com. petition for the South Auckland Cup.

Ellerslie's Fine Objective. The recently formed Ellerslie (Christ Church) group committee has taken up its duties most enthusiastically and has set as its objective the provision •of a suitable Scout headquarters, and arrangements are now in hand for the raising of £100 for this purpose. One of the committeemen has generously offered to subsidise their.efforts £ for £ up ta £25, and has stipulated a time limit of three months.

Naturally the committee is anxious to take advantage of this offer and has arranged as its first effort a garden fete and Paddy's Market to be held at the home of Mr. Segedin, Onslow Road, Ellerslie, at 2 p.m. on Saturday next, December 5. .

The committee extend to members of all troops and their friends an invitation to be with them at the party and help to make it a great success.. A most interesting afternoon is assnred. ...

Grey Lynn Annual. The twelfth Grey Lynn annual banquet and concert, which is always considered to fbe one of the features of the Scout calendar, will be all the more important this year because at it will be announced the resignation of Scoutmaster C. H. Swales, who has been associated with the group since its inception.

The function is to be held in.the troop headquarters, St. Columba Hall, Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn, and the concert, which has been organised by Rover Trevor Binns, is timed to commence at 7.45 p.m. What promises to be a most enjoyable evening will be brought to a close with a dance.

Edendale Cubs. A successful annual concert was given bv the Edendale Pack in the Centenary Hall, Dominion Road, on November; 21, writes the troop scribe. The proceeds were in aid of the annual camp. The boys deserve a great deal of praise for the way they performed,.and all. credit is due to the work of Mr. Ivan Whitehead, who trained them. The committee convey to him their appreciation and thanks for his help. The concert will be repeated at the Carlton Hall, Sandringham, on December 15, when we hope to have as full a muster as we did at our last performance.

Morthcote Troop. On Monday evening we had a full parade of both Scouts and CifbSi Four Scouts were invested and presented with their badges, Jack Simpson, Bob Jackson, George Humiberstone and Gordon Hurley. Harry Carter was invested as a Cub and given his tenderpad. On Saturday afternoon the Cubs are having a ramble on the Waimana Estate and if the weather' is : fine ' some .photographs will be taken. We are starting a (bottle drive to raise funds, and local citizens are 'being asked to forward a note to the Secretary, 6, Stafford Road, if they have any bottles, and a-Scout will collect them. Our committee meeting has been postponed till December 9 owing to the elections.
