AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.
CUP AND RAILWAY.
THE WEIGHTS DECI*ARED
CANDIDATES' FORM REVIEWED.
The weights were issued this morning by Mr. F. McMa'nemin for the Auckland Cup and the Railway Handicap, the principal events to be decided on the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting, and they should give satisfaction and ensure good fields.
Historic is top weight in the Auckland Cup with 9.2, or the same impost as he was awarded in the New Zealand Cup last month, but he did not start. He contested the New Zealand Cup in 1929 carrying 9.5, but was unplaced. Historic has proved himself a good horse up to a mile and a half, and at the last meeting at Ellerslie he dead-heated with Prince Val in the Mitchelson Cup, one mile and a half, with 9.9 on his back. He would only need to stay on to be troublesome in the big event at Auckland. Gay Crest (9.0) has 41b more than he carried into second place in the New Zealand Cup. Last season he won the Auckland Cup with 7.1, but owing to„ interference with the second horse, Motere, the placings were reversed. On the third day Gay Crest won the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, one mile and a half, with 8.0. He has been racing well this season, and if he keeps a straight course over the concluding stage of the Cup at Ellerslie he should again be hard to bent. Hunting Cry was given, 9.1 in th New Zealand Cup, but he did not contest the event. He has now been lowered to 8.12. He was a. great three-year-old, winning among other races the Great Northern Derby. If at ibis best he should go ;well. # Compris (B,B):V : has. 81b more than he carried in the New Zealand Cup, in which he finished fifth' after running a fair. race. On--.'the succeeding days of the same meetings he won the Fendalton Handicap, one mile and a quarter, with 8.6, and the-Metro-politan Handicap, one mile and a half, with 8.9. These were good performances and he should be much harder' to beat at Auckland than he was in the New Zealand Cup. Seatown • (8.0) failed, in the last Auckland Chip, with 7.11%. With 9.4 he was third in the Mitchelßon' Cup at Ellerslie in October, but he has not raced since.- Gustavo,'wlio:is on the same mark as Seatown, has yet'to prove.himself over two miles, 'but still the brother to Count Cavbur has shown a tendency to stay on in his races. My-Own (7.11) won the Autumn Handicap, one mile and a half, at Ellerefie at Easter with 8.4, but some of those above her.should hold her safely over two miles. Admiral Drake ran second in the New Zealand Cup with the minimum and 'iias now 7.8. He raced well prior to that event, but subsequently disappointed. However, he will have had. time to freshen mp and should again race prominently. Paquito (7.6). has nothing to commend him recently,, while Kahikatoa, who is carrying a "similar, impost, failed in the New Zealand Cup under 8.4. Black Duke (7.5) ran disappointingly in the.same race with 8.1. Motere (7.5) finished "second in the .Auckland Cup last year with 7.0, and was later (placed first.. He' has done nothing since, but he is such a good stayer that he will again have to be" considered. Of the others Jaloux (7.1) who ran well in the New Zealand Cup, finishing fourth, and Taneriri (7.3) look the best of the others. Those that may appeal most just now are Compris, Gay Crest, Admiral Drake, Motere. Jaloux and Taneriri. ' The Railway Handicap.
• Laughing Prince (9.8) has been'placed at the top of the Railway Handicap field. At Wellington he carried 9.9 into second place in the Shorts Handicap, six furlongs, and at Feilding on Saturday" deadheated with Inflation in the Feilding Stakes, five furlongs, with 9.1. He is right back to his best form. His stable companion Cadland has lib less, or a similar i impost to that which he carried when he won the Shorts Handicap, six furlongs, at the Auckland spring meeting. Both should go well if started. Hunting Cry (9.4) has won 'the Railway Handicap for the last two years, with 7.5 and 8.12 respectively. He will again have to be considered if started:' 'Karapoti (9.3) failed in the Railway, JHandicap, last season with 7.12, but 'he subsequently won the King's Plate, one mile, and the Great Northern Derby. At Feilding on Saturday he. was third in the Stakes with 9.0, i and he should be improved by the' time the Railway comes up for decision. Cimabue (9.0), won the Stewards' Handicap, six furlongs,-at Riccarton with 8.9j while since then he was second at Feilding, with 9 ; 4,.AstQ n only beating him by.; a 'head over six furlongs." He is a very likely one. Supremacy (8.11) is a good sprinter, and this should i not stop him. Lady Qiiex (8.10) has not done a great deal this season, but Paganelli (8.7) looks as?th6ugh,he:is approaching;-bis best form.' j,V,G,olden Wings -(8.7) , iif • a': very speedy sprinter and his second in the Stewards' HandicapY with lib- least • will ensure.., him; friends, if '•, started." -/Leitrim (8.6) has not raced touch this season, but. Silvermine ' (8.4) Snas always to be considered, and he has recent winning form to his 'credit.- Refresher and Manawhenua,'who are weighted at 8.3, have proved themselves good sprinters, as .has Orapai (8.2). Croupier (7.11), and High Comedy (7.11) are two speedy three-year-olds. The former was -third, in the Stewards'. Handicap at Riccarton with a similar impost, and if started should aeaiu give a good account of himself. Gay Lap (7.8) has also shown a lot of pace and. is not overburdened. Great Star (7.7) has been second with 7.7 and 7.s,respectively in the last two years in the Railway Handicap. He recently showed winning form at Riccarton and again promises to run well. Arisus (7.7) must also be {riven a chance after his form this' season. Of the others Kozan, King Ford. Impetuous and Lord Argosy may be tho pick of those lower down. Some that mav find favour just now are Laughing Prince, Cimabue, Supremacy, Golden Wings, Great Star, Croupier, Cadland and Karapoti.
