SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The final meeting of the year of the Dominion Road League of Mothers was held on Thursday, when a social time was enjoyed, there being visitors from the Mount Eden and Mount Albert branches.- After the president, Mrs. Barnes; had opened the meeting in the usual way, a little flower girl (Jean Honeycombe) presented her with a beautiful bouquet of sweet peas.. The president then made a presentation of a book, to- her secretary. (Mrs. Cliffe) and treasurer (Mrs. Ramsay) as a token of appreciation of the year's work. During the afternoon songs were rendered by Mrs, Stevens, Miss Honeycombe and Mrs. Fry, and an .elocutionary item by Mrs. Tattersall. Mrs. Honeycombe was accompanist. A competition was won by Mrs. Stevens. Afternoon tea was served by I Mesdames Blair, Sims, Honeycombe and i.Be Suza. ■.?••■-.

A ;breakirig-up party 'was given on Saturday afternoon for the junior pupils of the Juvenile Musical Box Club, of Mioses C6nstance Winthrop and Marguerite Haresnape, at the residence of Miss Winthrop, Mount Eden. Dancing on the lawrisi musical and elocutionary numbers, and a delicious tea passed away a pleasant afternoon. Miss Winthrop worea figured blue, ninon; Miss Haresnape was in a fuchsia crepe faille. Among the younger folk were: Zelda Pulham, B. and E. Morris, Nolo. Symes, Elva Warn, Minnie Kendall, M. Thomas, Mary Le Gi'ys, Elaine Macdougall, Esmc Larensen, t Joan Parker, Olga Anderson, Myrtle Pulham, Mavis Addison, May Vautier, Shirley Christie, Merle Parris, Nancy Hughes, Jean Addison, Merle Taylor, Betty Sewell, Dorothy Laught.on, Winsome Granville, Winsome Jones.
The members .of the gardening- circle of the Lyceum Club were the. guests of Mrs. J. W. Tattersfield at a» garden party held at "Puriri Puke,".her beautiful home in Mount Albert, on Tuesday afternoon. ,-Mrs. Tattersfield received her guests in a green and rose floral crepe de chine frock, and velvet trimmed hat to tqne. The lovely garden, with its numerous old trees and plants, including, rhododendrons, cypresses, firs, red gums and some huge puriris, pungas, red manuka, and many other native growth, was looking particularly attractive. The flower-ibordered. laWns, lavender walks and trellises of sweet peas, were all much admired by the visitors, who' were especially interested in the numerous rock gardens, which at present are a blaze of colour. Here Mrs. Tattersfield has gathered a remarkable collection' of rare specimens from' all over the world, and the beautiful primula moerheime of many glorious shades, numerous varieties' of sedum, gentians,' cacti, rhemannia, aiyssum, platycodons, campanulas, violas of every description, and countless other flowers attracted much admiration. In addition, there was a lovely pergola covered .with climbing roses, Kenntdya, bignonia and mirandia, a fern house with a compre-' .hensive collection of native ferns, a f;ree. shaded lily pond, and a birdhouse where some rare' specimens'live in ideal surroundings. ; After' a most enjoyable time .spent in admiring the garden, Mrs. Tattersfield dispensed afternoon tea, which ,\fas much appreciated by the members present. > ■ ■ ; .. ~,.---
' A.'fine performance' was given on Tuesday, November • 24,' at All Saints' Hallj Ponsonby, when Miss Gladys Moore, of Parhell, arid her pupils from Otahuhu, produced a dance recital for the benefit of All Saints Sunday "school picnic funds. The performance was a repeat of the recital given earlier in the year, by Miss Moore and her pupils at Otahuhu with marked.'success. The programmei included . a great -variety of chorus and solo dances, all performed in pretty .costumes. Dances/ of a national character were prominent, but many novelty items were provided. A grand militaire, Irish washerwoman, Spanish dance, Highland fling, gavotte, 'Lily of Eaguna, wood nymph, gipsy dance, Dutch clog, quarrel, fan ballet, black and white ballet, toe. dance, dainty frolic, horn.-, pipe, dance petite and cowboys made together a delightful and varied entertainment. Recitations, solos and pianoforte items were also rendered by some "of the performers. -Miss Moore was assisted iri the performance by Madame Frost and Mr. Galloway,, who.both contributed very enjoyable solos to the programme. Miss Moore herself also contributed a monologue and two solos, and performed an Irish jig, which were ' well received. The overture and entr'acte ! were played by St. .Thomas' Orchestra, and a very'successful evening resulted. At the conclusion of the performance the vicar of All Saints', the Rev. W. W. Averill, cordially thanked the visitors for the very fine' programme they had given for, the benefit of the Sunday school. ■■ •> •'- -. ....... /', , ••■; ~• '
A gift afternoon was given on Monday by Miss Ethel Birch, of Mount Eden, in honour of Miss Edna Thompson, whose marriage place last evening. Miss Birch wore a frock- of' ivory crepe de soie, and Miss Thompson was in a Shantung ensemble, with hat to' tone. Among those present were: Mesdames F. Lindberg, Lees, Cron, Misses Garland, .Williams, Flora Robertson, Marshall, R. Robertson, Rothbury, Plummer and Gilbert.
The annual banquet of the Women's Progressive Club was held on Saturday at the Y.W.C.A. The president, Mi's. Rawley, opened the evening with the usual toast to "The King." The committee surpassed themselves in the decorations and supper, enjoyed by all. There were some fine.speeches by the following: Miss Bentham spoke of the great progress t of the club,, and Mrs. Rawley replied! Mrs. Fergussoh toasted the Y.W.C.A., and was replied to by Mrs. Mitchell. Mrs. Robson spoke on the speakers and artists of the past year, and Mrs. Farr replied. . Mrs. Storey's toast was to the kindred club, and was replied to by Mrs. Mann. Mrs. Croton spoke to the guests of the evening,, and the Rev. G. Coats replied. There were solos and musical items by Mrs. H. Armstrong Keven, Mr. O'Malley, Mr. Bree, Mr. Mann, and Messrs. Kay and Bennett. Miss Gavey gave some humorous elocutionary items* All heartily, joined in the community singing led by Mrs. McConnell. A delightful evening was concluded by all singing "Auld Lang Syne."
