MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENTS
COMMENT BY CORONER
"I would not like to say how many inquests I have held on motor cyclists who have been killed in smashes in the last 10 years. Nine out of 10 of motor cycle accidents are caused by speed. In this case I cannot say that the driver of the car was negligent, and I return a verdict of accidental death," said the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the inquest held yesterday into the death of William Arthur Callow, aged IS, ot Kohimarama, who received fatal iniuries on October 23, when his motor cycle collided with a car at the corner of Orakei and Benson Roads. Evidence was given by the driver ot the car, Mr. W. Brownlee, of Sunglen Road, Mount Eden, that he slowed down as he was turning into Benson Road, when the accident occurred. He had a clear view of Orakei Road and saw.no traffic. The first he knew of the cycle was a" roar and a bang when it hit the

ThHehiclc, he said, was travelling like a flji«?h of lightning. Se coroner said that it was apparent from the skid marks that the cyclist tried to stop his machine, but was unable to do so., He returned a verdictof accidental death.
