SEAMAN CHARGED.

TROUBLE OVER A CHEQUE

A young South African seaman, Robert William Kennedy, aged 2G, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning on a charge concerning a Bank of New Zealand cheque for £55. It was alleged that, knowing the cheque to be forged, he attempted to cause Stanley Frederick Newcomb to act upon it as if it were genuine. On the application of the police Kennedy was remanded until Monday. When counsel for accused applied for bail Detective Sergeant Kelly said that Kennedy was suspected in connection with another offence and that a further charge would be preferred against him at his next appearance. Bail was fixed at £150.
