GAMING HOUSE RAIDED.
ARREST AT DEVONPORT
AGENT FINED £50
About 11 o'clock yesterday morning Detectives Nalder and Bowman visited a house at 41, King Edward Parade, Devonport, and arrested Sydney Montague Wynyard, aged 32, agent, on a charge of using the premises as a common gaming house.
This morning Wynyard appeared afc the Police Court, when he pleaded guilty to the charge.
"Wynyard had the telephone connected with this house, and apparently has haa been accommodating the punters of Devonport," said Chief Detective Hammond. "However, he is in a small way of business, only £o 10/ in bets being taken yesterday. Two years ago ho was fined £20 on a similar charge." Counsel for Wynyard said he was an agent and carried out drapery commissions.
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposed a fine of £50, or two mouths' imprisonment, and allowed 14 days in. which, to pay.
