The Auckland Training College/ does more' than merely provide training for teachers. It performs a definite social service, and an instance of this was shown on Saturday when members of the staff and some of the students visited the Church of England Orphanage at; Papatoetoc. The party was met at the station by the children, to whom were given Christmas presents. At the institution, more toys were distributed. The girls were presented with a' basketball by Miss J. Kennedy, and the boys with a football by the principal. of the college, Mr. D. M. Rae. A cricket match was held, after which Mr. Rae spoke to the children. There were also community singing and games.
