A small harbour is being constructed near the works to allow punts to go alongside and load, and the lime will be coiiveyed across to Thames and railed. At the Thames wharf the Harbour Board is pushing on with the installation of suction pumps to deepen the berthage, so that the scow and punts can get in early on the tide and unload. The works are capable of producing 100 tons daily. Gold and Forestry. 0 An Auckland syndicate, under the name of the Thames Gold and forestry Syudicate, has obtained options over a considerable area of mining lands between the Waiotahi and Hape creeks, and Mr, J. D. McMillan, solicitor, of Auckland,' has placed before the borough council plans for the flotation of a large mining and forestry company. The council has appointed a select committee to confer with the organisers, and it has been arranged that all publicity must be approved by the council before being given out. It is stated that should the company be floated it will.provide a large amount of work.and be the means of creating a revival of mining at Thames. Great interest is being evinced locally in the proposal and .farther details are awaited. The followingclaims are now under option:—Waiotahi, Cambria, Nonpareil, Bright Smile, Daw and the Occidental-Una group. The rich Hague-Smith reef traverses the latter area for two miles and is the most favoured locality at Thames Avith experienced miners; Thames-Coromandel. Motorists will be interested to hear that the Thames Borough Council has. made, a start with the improvements to tbc Thames-Coromandel main highway between Tararu Bridge and the Thames County boundary. This portion of the highway has for some years been in a bad state oi repair, and a large number of men is now widening the road by taking several.fee 1 off the hill side and scarifying and metalling the surface. Owing to the growing popularity of the Thames Coast as a summer resort, the traffic during the coming season promises to be very heavy. ■■_.■-■
