A brighter Christmas is promised for many than was anticipated a few weeks back. Manufacturing firms find thinggetting back to near normal and employment is being found for numbers of tradesmen who were previously on relief work. One foundry specialising in a certain, line is. putting on men every day to cope with northern orders, and during the past week has taken on 30 men with others to follow.

Other firms are also cutting.out the week-off method and some are advertising for hands. One woollen company, for instance, advertised on Saturday for 20 mantle machinists, offering permanent employment.
