THE WRITERS' CLUB.
At the Aveekly meeting of the Writers' Club, presided over by Mrs. I. M. Cluett, members were asked to eubmit suggestions for public speaking. The subjects chosen, and fully discussed, were: "Have novelists or playwrights most influenced public opinion?" "The strongest force in the world to-day is Science/ , "Is the pursuit of politics an honourable avocation?" and "Is too much sympathy shown to criminals ?" The president commented on the very fine addresses given by the various members, great eatiefaction being felfc at the spirited part taken by some of the junior members. It was decided to introduce further controversial subjects at subsequent meetings.
