CHEQUE FORGERIES.

SENTENCE OF SIX MONTHS

Six months' imprisonment with hard labour for forging and uttering cheques was the Sentence passed by Mr, Justice Smith in the Supreme Court to-day upon Charles Mozart Spinley, who was committed from Wa.iiganui.on two charges. His Honor said the offences had been conwnitted at" the same time as previous offences for which the prisoner, had been sentenced to 1J years' imprisonment for false pretences. He had also served sentences for bigamy ,and making a false declaration. The sentence of six months imposed to-day would be concurrent with the term the prisoner was -now serving; but, if the question arose in the future, whether he should be declared an habitual criminal, this would be takeD into account. : , .
