' ,1' ' > With head bandaged, Percy Collins, a labourer, aged 34, stood in the dock at the Police Court this _ morning and pleaded guilty to stealing two cabbages, valued at 1/, the property of Morar Daya, and assaulting a' constable. Detective Sergeant Kelly said that last evening Constable Bowley saw accused drop over the fence of a house in Grey Avenue occupied by an Indian. Collins bolted when the constable appeared, and the constable gave chase. • Near the corner of Grey Avenue, continued Mr. Kelly, accused turned round and hiC the constable in the stomach with his knee. % "The policeman then took his baton to the man," added Mr. Kelly, "and that is the reason for his bandaged head." Accused said he had taken a few drinks yesterday and did not know what he was doing. Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., sentenced accused to one month's imprisonment.
