BEAUTIFYING ROTORUA.

LAKE FRONT RECLAMATION.

KUIRAU RESERVE

PLANS NEAR COMPLETION,

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

ROTORUA, Friday,

Plans for the beautiiication of Rotorua are approaching a stage when the public can'obtain a very fair idea of the proposals made by the landscape architect, Mr. F. Tschopp. The plans for the lake front are not yet complete, but they forecast a waterside parade, warm paddling pools for children,' adult swimming pools, a.boat liarboiy, tea kiosk and band rotunda, with the accompanying lay-out in lawns, shrubs and trees'. The plan also deals with the section which the council proposed to lease for residential purposes and it shows .that, by artistic treatment, building thereon would not interfere with the beauty of the lake front and the new reclamation "would 'provide more .land than would be disposed of by lease.

The plan for the lay-out and beautiiication of Kuirau Reserve is practically complete and' shows how this 50 acres of additional domain can be treated. Without interfering with.the natural thermal attractions it is proposed to provide three Rugby fields, cricket oval, Soccer field, two" hockey grounds, ten tqnnis courts, four basketball courts, three croquet lawns, running and cycling tracks, large open-air swimming pool, children's playground, etc. The ...whole is complete with a large grandstand,' dressing pavilions, rest rooms, tea kiosk and picnic areas. Extensive planting of trees and shrubs is provided for with picturesque lawns and gardens around the various hot and cold pools.

These proposals arc more or less indefinite at present, but there appears to be a-genuine desire among residents to adopt a systematic programme 'of improvement and thee is no doubt whatever that Kuifau Keserve" can be made into a fine asset for the town.
