REAL UNITY.
EMPIRE SENTIMENT.
Tightening of Bonds at Ottawa
Conference.
MR. R. B. BENNETT HONOTJREP
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, November 27
The Prime Minister and other members of the British Government, also Mr. S, M. Bruce, ox-Primo Minister of Australia, were among the guests at a complimentary dinner given to Mr. R. B. Bennett, Prime Minister of Canada^
In the course of a speech Mr. Bennett eaid the people of Canada were most desirous that there should be a firmer and a stronger bond between every section of the Empire. A free association of peoples with equal status if they were not exercising the same functions was a very fine figure of speech,. but it left much to be desired in the realms of reality.
Means and methods, must be found by which they could accomplish that end. There lay before them the greatest opportunity that had ever come to free peoples to accomplish a great end, and Mr. Bennett said he felt they would be able to accomplish much.
The problems upon which he believed they might unite to bring about a successful solution included the consolidation of Imperial trade, the consolidation of the credit of the Empire, problems connected with shipping and the silver problem.
Mr, MacDonaJd said he reciprocated the fine, practical sentiments Mr. Bennett had expressed. He hoped most sincerely that during the Economic Conference at Ottawa all Mr, Bennett's ideas would be fulfilled and the Pominions and Britain would be knit in one splendid unity by new bends of mutual co-opera-tion.
