JOTTINGS FROM U.S.A. PRESS. Francis Paine, of Leicester, England, ■who began cobbling shoes when he was ten years old, is still at it. Paine is now 98. An eight-foot hollyhock grown by Mrs. Dan Peterson, of Brainerd, Minn., had nine flower spikes, and during the summer bore more than 1500 blooms. Sentenced to six months' imprisonment, Robert Arnway told a Chicago judge his Honor was crazy, so his term was increased to eighteen months. The thirteenth child of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Brown, of Wesfcboro', Mass., was born at their home, 13, School Street, on the thirteenth of the month. Because his partner, Raymond Courtney, of London, England, married Charles Douglas' divorced wife, Douglas forced the firm into bankruptcy to get revenge. Because an English 'husband is held responsible for his wife's slanderous utterances, Frederick Kendall, of Burton, England, was compelled to pay damages to a neighbour about whom Mrs. Kendall had gossiped. George Rosemarish, of New York City, was locked up after he sent two' 'bullets into the apartment of William J. Stewart. Rosemarish said he meant no harm and was only holding a little target practice with a .32 calibre rifle. Two bandits in Kansas City, U.S.A., admit that they robbed the Drecklein and Williams drug store cf two strong boxes. They kept 25 dollars in currency and burned '"some old papers." The "old papers" were liberty bonds amountinj' to 500 dollars. Annoyed being reprimanded and being kept after school for saying "yup" instead of "yes," Earl Praleigh, of Rhineback, New York, fifteen years old, ran away from home. He was persuaded to return by Sheriff Saulspaugh, who advised xum to improve his pronunciation.
