FUNCTION AT AERODROME.
NIGHT FLYING AND FIREWORKS.
* The final celebrations' in connection with Aviation Week will take placc at the Auckland Aero Club's aerodrome at Mangere'. .' when there will be a display of fireworks, an exhibition of night flying, and a dance for members and their friends. The instructor machine, which was imported for the occasion by the Vacuum Oil Company, Pty., Limited, and proved a' great attraction at the exhibition held at the premises of the Farmers' Trading Company, Ltd., will be taken to Mangere and installed on the aerodrome. The competitors who have performed the best during the time the machine has been in use will contest the final. The finals for the competition will be held irrespective of weather conditions. The balance of the events will also be held irrespective of weather, with the exception of the night flying. Weather permitting, the night flying exhibition will begin at 9 p.m., and will bo carried out by the instructor, FlightLieut. D. M. Ailan. His machine has been specially equipped with the required red and green navigation lights, a white tail-light and a small lamp-In the cockpit to enable the pilot to see the instruments. Motor car lights pointing diagonally down tlic runway will be used to assist the pilot in landing. Following the flying, there will be a display of fireworks and a large bonfire. Elaborate lighting effects have been arranged, including strings of coloured lamps between the hangar and the clubhouse. Although the dance in the clubhouse will be confined to members and their friends, the music will be relayed through the special airport loud speaker, and the public will thus have an opportunity of dancing on the lawn near the clubhouse.
