SPRING RACING.
takapuna jockey club.
THE OPENING DAY.
CARD FOE TO-MORROW,
Lite Takapuna Jockey Club s meetings are usually very popular with the Auckland public, and the spring fixture, which opens* to-morrow, provided the weather is fine, should prove as attractive as its predecessors, for excellent helds are carded aad good racing is promised. There will be a five-shilling totalisator on she outside, bet patrons of the lawn will be able to gain access to it if they so desire. The ciub has also decided to reduce the admission charges. The Opening Event. In the Melrose Maiden Handicap, with which the meeting opens, it is stated that Xui Mint will not start. Silene has previously shown a liking for tins course, having run third there last year in a sevenfurlong event. Knight of Australia was fourth in the Hore Hore Handicap, six furlonzsrtat the Dargaviile meeting, after being prominent all the way. He has been doping Takanini. Royal Gallant ivas placed last season, and in Ms only race this season, the Maiden Handicap at the Dargaviile meeting, he ran a good race, bein"' well up as they turned for home. He has been going well at Ellerslie. Star Lap showed a lot or speed at Te Rapa recently, tjmsliTTig fourth in the Frankton Handicap, seven furlongs, after leading practically ali the way. The shorter distance should suit her to-morrow.. Tatyoon has been pleasing at Ellerslie recently and will have to be considered. Lucidus showed up in the Gordon Handicap at Ellerslie and is a likely improver. The chief fancies may be STAR LAP ROYAL GALLANT LUCIDUS. The High-weight Handicap. Seventeen are carded for the Tiri Highirasht Handicap- Luminary should be improved as the result of his effort at Te Kapa. Hit the Deck and Ruby Dawn were both winners at that fixture. Bronze Tray lias been scratched. Neil has good] recent winning form over hurdles, while Patutahi and Wiltshire have beet), going along well in their work. Tarporley was fourth in the Maiden Plate at Avondale in September and is now much improved. Heremia. was second in thai event and also , in the Maiden Handicap, six furlongs, at the Dargaviile meeting on the same course. Dominican, Stonehenge and Principal Icjok the best of the others. A trio that may have support are RUBY DAWN HEREMIA - HIT THE DECK. Borough Handicap, PaganeQi, who heads the Borough Handicap field, has nothing to his credit for some time. Yah failed in Australia, but Chrysology will have friends. He has only started twice this season, finishing third in the Railway Handicap, six furlongs, at Napier Park, and second in the Flying Handic-ap, of similar distance, at Hastings. He galloped well -at Ellerslie yesterday morning. Sir Mond has been showing up on the same track and is a very fit horse. Royal Ruler showed' winning form at Te Kapa, but he will probably be reserved for the sprint. Yandyke has been shaping well in his work, and if he begins properly he is sure to go well. Royal Artist was second to Croupier in the Wainui Handicap, one .mile, at Trentham, and that form points to him being one of the hardest to beat. White Wings showed at Whangarei that she was returning to form. She has been going pleasingly at Takanini. Werata, On Top and Llanore look the most likely of the others. The bulk of the money may go on CHRYSOLOGY ROYAL ARTIST WHITE WINGS. The Alison Cup. Fioyal Doulton usually races well at Takapuna, and, after her performance at Avondale in dead-heating with.Catoma in the Dargaviile Cup, she should again go a good race. Prince Yal dead-heated 'with Historic in the Mitehelson Cup, one mile and a half, at Ellerslie, and as he has gone on the right way since he is sure to have support. Yolimond won the Whangarei Cup, one mile and a quarter, and was staying on. at the finish. True Blood has little to commend him recently, but if the traek is soft he would have to be considered. Sir Mond has a prior engagement, while Catoma, after the way he has been going since dead-heating in the Dargaviile Cup. should be in the picture. Brampton and Baroscope both performed well at Te Rapa and should be improved, particularly the latter. The ehief selections when the machine closes may be PRINCE YAL CATOMA YOLIMOND. The Two-year-olds. 0: the nine paid up for in the Cambria Handicap Tea Trader and Miss Linley are the_ only ones who have winning form to their credit, though Holly Lu and Timorous have both run good races. Prolyxo, a full-sister to Ammon Ra, is stated to have some speed, but she has not yet raced. The principal fancies may be TEA TRADER MISS LINLEY TIMOROUS. The Takapuna Plate. A splendid field is engaged in the Takapnna. Plate and betting will probably take a wide range. Of the 8.9 division Lord Val, •karangapai and Biddy's Boy have the best torm. In the S.O lot Persham was a recent winner at Te Rapa, where his form was impressive. Limeen has plenty of pace, while United is an improved horse. Chief Jewel showed irp at Te Rapa and is a very uscly sort. Peter Jackson has been scratch- *». Speedmint won the open isprint on the first day at Te Rapa, which was a good effort, as he came from a good way back, -lonareiiy has not been out of a place in Jus five starts this season, winning two races, the last up to six furlongs and a Hair. while he was second in each of his wier three starts. He galloped well at -fc-uersEe yesterday. Instalment has also raced consistently this season, having a Ejst and a second to his credit in two starts. Jalldy Karo looks the best of the others. A preference may be shown for BIDDY'S BOY CHIEF JEWEL PERSHAM Ponui Handicap. Taurua has shown good form up to a nule this, season, and as he is not meeting strong lot in the Ponui Handicap he would show U P- Yalmarie ran second in a Wen-furlong event at Te Kapa recently w . l _should be improved. Good Idea raced ' a t Whangarei nn d has done plenty of ork since. liluminagh showed promise tlifc 6 ? - finished second to Ruby Dawn in m -plankton Handicap, seven furlongs, at Kapa..and is a likely improver. Excella aiJr l Escalus may be most prominent 1 others. The favourites may be
