CITY COUNCIL.

CHILDREN'S CAMP.

WATER AT MOTUIHI

MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS,

Permission was granted at last night's meeting of the Auckland City Council for the Community Sunshine Association to hold. a children's health camp in the quarantine buildings at Motuihi Island during January and February next. In the first place, the request was referred back for a report on account of the very limited water supply at the island, and tho association was referred to the Y.M.C.A., which has an admirable camping site at Hunua. At last night's meeting of the council, the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, recommended that permission be granted, subject to the water supply remaining sufficient. He stated that with the hope of increasing the water supply to the two existing reservoirs, a well had been sunk at Motuihi to a depth of 16ft, 10ft of which was through a sandstone strata. At the bottom of this well, four bores were driven an additional 14ft, and an apparently excellent water supply had been tapped. Blockhouse Bay Improvements.—On tho payment of a sum of £100 by the Blockhouse Bay Improvement Association, the council will . subsidise the amount £ for £, and the work of protecting the reclamation of the foreshore at the bay will be started as soon as possible. It was also decided that the city engineer should titilise, as far as practicable, local unemployed labour under the No. 5 scheme, and that the association be asked to endeavour, during the summer months, to raise further funds, so that addidtional work could be put in hand next year. Cabaret License Refused. —On the recommendation of the chief building inspector, the application by the "Green Parrot" Cabaret for a license was refused. It was pointed out., that the by-laws required two exits and two staircases, each at least 4ft wide, but in the present case there was only one exit and one narrow stairway. Tennis Courts Leased. —The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association was granted a further lease of all hard courts at the Domain, and the rental of £104 a year was renewed.
