LANDLORDS' INTERESTS.
ASSOCIATION FORMED.
FIRST AUCKLAND MEETING.
With the idea of consolidating the position of property owners throughout the Dominion, the Property Owners' Association has been formed. Its first meeting in Auckland was held last night, Mr. P. Eraser Hodgson presiding over .1 large attendance. Generally speaking, the association would watch the interests ot the landlord in New Zealand, Mr. Hodgson said. Referring to the difficulties with which the property owners had to contend, he said that the association intended not only to deal with tenants, but also to try for legislation. As the association should interest landlords throughout the Dominion it was essential that there should be a big membership. Speaking on the law of landlord and tenant, Mr. A. G. Quartley pointed out that the majority of disputes arose from the fact that the landlord neglected to secure an agreement in writing. The difficulties of the landlord under the Rent Restriction Act, which is passed annually, and the need for its abolition, were also discussed. While the secretary, Mr. F. W. Packer, emphasised the necessity for the association, he said there was no intention to take advantage of tenants. Arrangements had been made for 400 agents to act on its behalf all over Auckland.
