CANDIDATES FOR FEILDING.
ARISUS WORKING WELL
IMPETUOUS FOR THE STUD.
Early in the season Impetuous gave promise of winning some good races, but last month she began to go off. As she got worse with racing at Ellerslie and Trentham it was decided to retire her to the stud, and she has gone out to Roataniu. Impetuous was foaled two days too soon and consequently has had to race as if a year older than she really is. This kept her out of the classic ' events and handicapped her severely. However, the Limond—Pennon filly should make good at the stud. W. Rayner now has five in his stable, including Pomp, Genesta, Midinette, Pedestal and Linoleum. Of these Pomp and Pedestal will be taken to Feildiug on Saturday. Pomp is to be a starter in the Stakes;, in which he will be meeting some of the best gallopers in the land, including Cadland, Lady Quex, Cimabue, Karapoti and Inflation, but the son of Absurd is a much improved gelding and he will keep the cracks very busy. Cereal appears to have trained off slightly and will not be a runner at Feilding. The Acre gelding is to be taken back to Waitara, and if he freshens up will be seen out at some of the Taranaki meetings during the holidays. If he goes on right and learns how to jump out from the barrier, Cereal will show that he can gallop with the best.- He not only has eaps of speed, but lie goes on with it. Kowhatu was schooled over the hurdles on Monday, W. Feilding being in the saddle. The Quarantine gelding cleared the obstacles in fine style and on Tuesday morning he hit out' very freely in covering a round. He is to run in the hurdle events at Feilding and should show that he has improved a lot lately. was not paid up for in the Kowhai Hack Handicap at Feilding r n Saturday, as he appeared sore after working "on Monday. He showed no trace of trouble on Tuesday mornin< T when he went very freely on the plough. He will probably be a runner on Monday. Pedestal (W. Ravner) and Just An Idea (Moran) were companions in a spin over six furlongs on the outside of the course proper. They clapped the pace on aird ran the first quarter in the half-mite in 49s and the full distance (some 20 yards over the six furlongs), in' 1.16 1-5, Just An Idea being about a length to the good, Pedestal easing up over the last little bit. It was a good gallop and if Pedestal will run up to it in the Trial at Feilding he must have a big chance. Just an Idea has improved a lot lately and is nowshaping in something like his best, and the Chief Ruler gelding should run well at Feilding, where he figures in the Kiwitea Handicap on Saturday. Pomp, with his trainer in the saddle, slipped over half a mile comfortably in 50 l-ss. He looks in great heart and it' is only a matter of him going on right for "him to win some good races in the near-future. Arisus, looking bright and well, though a trifle on the big side, left five furlongs behind in 1.3 3-5. The Thespian gelding is one of the most consistent of performers and he will be hard to beat in his engagements at Feilding. W. Dwyer lias a team of six in work, comprising Paratoo, Knollmere, Ridgemount, Head Lady and Arastar (a four-year-old son of Arausio). They were all given useful work on Tuesday morning. Paratoo has dropped out of his first day's engagements at Feilding, but Ridgemount will be a runner in the Flying. Since returning from Christchurch, Korokio has been on the easy list, but the Redfern filly sprinted half a mile the reverse way on Tuesday, hitting out with all her customary freedom. C. Gordon will take Callaii and Takahue to Feilding. The former is in the Trial Plate and if she begins right she should run prominently, as she is very speedy. Takahue has not shoyn the form expected of him so far this season, though he looks well. He figures in the mile and a distance hack event. F. Tilley intends taking High Falutin', Glenartney and Ruanui to Feildiug. All three are reported to be well forward, but they have not raced so far this season. Ruanui is one that usually goes well when fresh and he may be handy in the Kiwitea Handicap, as the distance will suit him.
