LOCAL BODIES.
DEVONPORT COUNCIL,
The regular meeting of the Devonport Borough Council' took place last evening, the deputy-Mayor, Mr. E. H. Little, presiding. « Devonport Ratepayers—The Devonport Propertyholders' Association wrote requesting the council to utilise the section on which Munn house is erected for revenue-producing purposes,. instead of as a roadway as proposed. The council deferred decision. Discoloured .Water—A dairy company complained of discoloured water. • The engineer, Mr. A. T. Griffiths, explained that the discoloration was difficult to combat, and was accelerated by the high velocity of the flow at that particular point. He had suggested the erection of a filter. The council agreed to inspect and report to next meeting. Refuse Destructor. —The ' chairman reported that a conference had been held to endeavour to end the impasse due to the' ruling of the chairman- of the joint standing committee that' the constitution of, the present committee was invalid. It had been finally agreed to submit the following proposal to the Northcote Council: —(1) Will the Northcote Council agree to a subsidiary agreement to vary the' representation to include the representation of 5, 4 and 1; (2) application to be made to to validate the setting up ,of a committee with equal representation, viz,, two each; (3) if neither proposition is agreed to, the council to take legal proceedings to have the position defined, and the local bodies required to appoint members to a joint committee in accordance with section 55. Signal Station—Mr. H. J. Hutchings referred to his interview with the Devonport Yacht Club respecting a contribution towards the wages of a look-out man on Mount Victoria signal station. The club expressed sympathy with the proposal, and agreed to bring it under the notice of the Yacht and Motor Boat Association. Mr. Hutchings contended that if each club subscribed 20/ it would be fairly adequate, with a donation from the council. Th v e council agreed to accept control ot the station, providing the yachting clubs contributed towards its upkeep. ■Unemployment Relief.—The engineer, Mr. A. T. Griffiths, reported that 242 men had been engaged on relief works for the past week.
