■THtEF IN WHANG AREI. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A Whangarei "Slippery Sam" has been operating in the Kensington area this week. On Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Foote left home to go visiting, and on their return at 11.30 p.m. found the bathroom window wide open and a footmark on the sink. Entering their room they found articles of clothing etrewn about the floor. A £5 note was missing from a wallet in a coat pocket, but nothing else was taken. The police' are making inquiries. A thief also attempted to enter the house of Mr. H. McDonald, four chains away, jemmy marks being found on the window, but the fastener had held.
