FALSE ALARM OF FIRE.
YOUNG MAN'S OFFENCE
"TAPPED GLASS OF BOX." A young man, Gordon finsor, appeared on summons at the Police Court to-day charged with giving a false alarm of fire to the City Brigade. He pleaded guilty. Detective Sergeant Kelly said Ensor gave a false alarm cf fire from a boxin Western Springs Road. He was with three other young men at the time. He admitted giving two other false alarms from the same box later. Coimeel for defendant admitted that the offence was a most reprehensible one. Eneor had been unemployed, and this probably had something to do with the matter. However, there was an unusual feature about the case. Ensor did not break the glass of the alarm box. He happened to tap the glass and wae surprised to find that the brigade turned out. Later Ensor was showing some friends how it was done, and, when he again tapped the glass, the alarm was transmitted to the fire station. "I think something must have been wrong with the alarm box when a tap on the glass made it work, added counsel. "Eneor will see that something is wrong. He is fined £5, or one month s imprisonment," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, 'Ensor was allowed 48 hours to pay his fine.
