PLUNKET SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Northcote committee of the Plunket Society was held in the borough chambers Wednesday, Mrs. Campbell presiding. A vote of sympathy in the death of her mother, Mrs. Norman Heath; was passed to Miss Molly Heath, who was associated with the social side of the work of the Northcote branch. Appreciation of what was being done by the Northcote branch, especially for the young mothers and I babies of Birkenhead, was conveyed on behalf of the Birkenhead Women's Association by the lion, secretary, Mrs. A. E. Wood. The mothers with very young babies were particularly thankful for the visits' paid to their homes by the Northcote Plunket nurse. The association had heard of some mothers whom the nurse could not visit, and the members felt that something more definite at Birkenhead should be done towards the establishment of rooms there. The accounts for free necessitous cases having 'been heavy, it was decided to organise a bridge evening early in the New Year with a view to augmenting the funds. Gifts for this purpose were offered by Mrs. Harvie and Mrs. Torrance. Ah interesting paper, prepared by Nurse Jessie Campbell, on Karitane products, for the instruction of the committee, was read by Mrs. J. W. Lethbridge.
Instancing the excellence of the work of the institution, the president' mentioned the case of a local infant, whose condition was so low that its life was despaired of. • After four months at the Karitane Home, the child was home again and doing splendidly. The next meeting, on Thursday, December 3, is to be held at the home of the president.
