The temperature-of the body, in health, is maintained as a result of a constant process of balancing between the production and loss of heat, controlled by a special centre in the nervous system. Ihe normal temperature is 98.4 deg. Fah. _ It may rise as higli &s. 10* degrees or sink as low as 90 degrees for a but the risk to life is considerable when it passes above 10G degrees or below 95 degrees. High temperatures are usually the result of "diseases due to '^germs''—pneumonia, typhoid fever, malaria and so on. Low "temperatures often follow much loss of Mood, starvation and the collapsed state iollowing various illnesses.
