NEW ZEALAND FAT LAMBS.

IMPROVING THE QUALITY. COMPETITION TO BE HELD.

With a view' to improving the quality of New Zealand lamb exports, and advertising ,tliem on the Londoif market, the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, in conjunction with the various agricultural and pastoral associations in the Dominion, has arranged for the holding this season of a competition.

1 The Dominion has been divided into districts, and conditions of the competition are that each must supply a minimum of 60 lambs. Pens of three lambs each are to be entered-, but no individual competitor may enter more than two pens. The districts in the North and South Islands making the best display are to hold challenge shields, presented by the Meat Producers' Board.

The Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday received details of the/competition. "The Auckland Province has been divided into north and south, with Auckland centre of the district north of Mercer, and Hamilton that of the Waikato.

Conditions of the competition ape that lambs are to be bred for export and not for stud purposes, and associations are requested to see that no entries of inferior quality are included. The weight of the lambs should not be more than 361b frozen weight. As soon as possible after killing all carcases are to be shipped to the London headquarters of the Meat Board, which will arrange for the judging and for the exhibition of the entries.

In addition to the challenge shields', the board has offered prizes of £15, £10 and £5 for the best individual pen in each island, and suggested that each association could provide prizes for the best entry in its own district.

Tlie scheme was approved by the Auckland Association, and it was recommended that prizes of the same amount as those offered by the board should be prvoidcd for competition in the Auckland district. Further details will be discussed at a conference of provincial associations on Tuesday.
