BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
The "Star" of October 8 publishes an answer given by Mr. A. Burns to Rev. H. McCallum, relating to the singing of hymns during the teaching of Bible in schools, in which he states that, as the teachings take place out of school hours, the Education Board has no control. In my experience this is incorrect; as the Westmere District School, which has recently adopted this subject, does not conduct out of school hours, but opens up at 11.30 a.m. to 12 noon, every Thursday. Being an opponent of the scheme, I do not allow my boys to attend, therefore they arrive home to lunch at 11.30 a.m. and return at 1 o'clock. ' So it would be of interest to me to know if Westmere School are exceeding their power under this scheme, or whether the chairman of the Education Board, Mr. A. Burns, is mistaken. B.G.
