CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday.

The final payment for the New Zealand Trotting Cup was made yesterday, when the twenty horses who survived the first acceptance were again left in the race. This is a wonderful result for a nomination of 21. It might have been even better, as it was stated recently ■that the failure of Gold Jacket .to accept a few weeks ago was due to oversight. Had he remained in, the race would have drawn the maximum.

The draw for the two divisions was made yesterday afternoon, and it leaves material for two fine races. The first division looks decidedly easier than the second. The latter includes Harold Logan, the hot favourite, also last year's winner; Wrackler, in addition to Roi 1 Or, Glenrossie and Carmel, all of whom are fancied. The star in the first division is Logan Park, who has Kohara, also the dual winner Peter Bingen, among his rivals, together with Lindbergh, who is on the limit.

The nearer the day of the race approaches, the more does it become apparent that Harold Logan is_ likely to start a raging hot favourite. His admirers do not talk of who will win but of who will fill the places behind Harold Logan. The divisions will be run next Tuesday, the first at 1.40 pjm. and the second at 2.20 p.m.

There was some useful work at Addrngton this morning, the star performer being the Cup candidate Kohara. Driven by J. Bryee, jun., he was sent over two miles, doing .the first mile in 2.15 4-5, mile and a half in 3.21 2-5, and the full journey in 4.26. He went by himseh and it was a fine piece of work, in which he was pulling hard for the first mile and a half.

Native Prince paced in pleasing style over two miles. He' has never looked in better condition.

Muriel de Oro gave a high-class display over a mile and a half without hopples. The Cup horse Logan Chief went with her but did not impress.

Logan Park and Free Advice went over two miles and a furlong, with Golden Pedro setting a pace tfll the last quarter, when Free Advice dashed up and beat the Australian pacer. Logan Park, bearing an improved (appearance as a result of his race at Wellington, was not extended at the finish.. > . White Satin, Sir Voyage and Sill-prise Journey trotted two miles in company. Sir Voyage made one break, but recovered quickly. Surprise Journey finished up with a fine burst of speett and he looks likely to run well in the unhoppled events. Home Voyage showed plenty of speed ;n patches, but he went unsteadily. The imported trotter Stanley T. went very well over a mile and a half. He should win a race next week if he goes off right. Vesuvius, another of the Cup horses, was sent two miles. The first half mile was slow but it improved later and he was at top over the final half mile, doing his work well. Linkman worked a mile and a quarter but did not go up to his be/t standard, while lie was stopping at the finish. Since the arrival of Belle Axworthy at Aldington she has done some good work, j and she looks well. There is a growing opinion that the Auckland mawe will race I prominently at the meeting. ....
