ADELAIDE, November 2,
The cricket match South Australia v. South Africa was continued to-day, when the wicket and the weather were ideal.
When stumps were drawn on Saturday the visitors had made 175 in their first innings, against South Australia's 170, and had lost one wicket for S6 in their second venture, Christy (55) and Viljoen (17) being not out.
The South Africans resumed batting this morning and lost four wickets for eight runs in the first half-hour. Christy again showed himself a reliable and capable bat.
Cameron and Balaskas were not affected by Grimmett's subtleties and saved an imminent crash. Cameron played a forceful game, hitting six fours and displaying a variety of shots.
Balaskas was top scorer with a valuable 61. He hit six fours in unorthodox fashion. The score at the tea adjournment was 234 for seven wickets.
After the interval Richardson's frequent bowling changes were ineffective against Vincent and McMillan, both of whom were playing vigorously, frustrating the alert fielding and collaring the bowling. Carlton brought about the separation of the pair, getting Vincent caught at extra cover.
In the next oyer McMillan was smartly caught and bowled by Starr, who was the seventh bowler. Both batsmen had played a grand innings and both had hit four fours. McMillan batted 164 minutes. Starr "also clean-bowled Quinn. The innings, which closed for 293, had lasted 384 minutes. The South Australia team commenced their second innings and when stumps were drawn had scored nine for no wickets.* Scores: — SOUTH AFRICA. First innings 175 Second Innings. WEAKNESS IN ATTACK.
(Received 11.30 a.m.}
LONDON, November 2.
The "Evening Standard" sports writer says the Australians' only hope of preventing cricketers going over to League cricket is recognition of professionalism.
-He says it is disquieting to find the New Zealanders praising England's older bowlers in preference to Verity, Bowes and Brown. It seems indisputable that England's art of bowling has declined. "We fear we shall be helpless against the Australians' strong batting in 1932 unless > better attack develops than at present seems likely," he concludes. ;
MAY VISIT N.Z.
SPRINGBOKS' TOUR,
(Received 2 p.in.)
SYDNEY, this day,
The itinerary of the South African cricketers may have to be drastically changed owing to the Tliemistocles, on which they intend proceeding home, sailing a fortnight earlier than was scheduled. There will be no other steamer for a month and the date of the fifth Test may have to be brought forward if the shipping company refuses to adhere to the original date of sailing.
An alternative suggestion is that the New Zealand Association be approached to arrange three matches for the Springboks in order that they may be able, to fill in the time while awaiting a convenient ship. Failing this the Tastour will be curtailed.
