Pupils of the Pakuranga School last week farewelled the late assistantteacher, Miss E. Purtell, who is taking up a position at Grey Lynn school. Joan Blundell and Jean Paton presented Miss Purtell with a supper set on behalf of the pupils, and other gifts were bouquets presented by Mary Hall and Noeline Jenkins.
Commander C. E. Hotliam, who ha 3 relinquished command of H.M.6. Laburnum, left last evening for Christchurch, where he will spend his leave before returning .to England by the Aorangi on November 17. His successor, Commander R. Ramsbotham, assumed command of the Laburnum yesterday.
