MANY MEASURES.
PARLIAMENT'S BUSY NIGHT
BEWILDERING SELECTION.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
The House of Representatives last night dealt with a bewildering selection of items. The Public Works Statement and Estimates were presented, and discussion on them deferred. The new Transport Bill, making moderate alterations to the original proposals, was introduced and read a first time. The second reading was given the Broadcasting Bill, to which several amendments were proposed by GovernorGeneral's Message, including one for the appointment of an advisory council to assist the Broadcasting Board, which is to take over control of the system. The final stages of the measure will be taken later in the week. Approval was given the amendment to the Stamp Duties Act, exempting from payment of oversea steamer ticket tax passengers who booked before the bill was passed, and also to a series of Customs resolutions, which, in addition to effecting adjustments, made permanent most of the duties previously announced in place of a fixed terminating date. The Customs Bill, giving effect to all alterations, was read a first time, the second reading being fixed for Wednesday* To-day the House will dispose of the remaining nineteen classes of estimates and the Public Works Estimates as well.
