CREW RETURN. TO WELLINGTON

The auxiliary yaclif Maputu, which was wrecked in Palliecr Bay three days ago, left Foxton on Tuesday aii.l arrived at Mr. Riddiford's station at Orongorongo on Thursday (o take in a supply of benzine,, leaving at •i p.m. In Palliser Bay w*9 driven toward, the shore ly the wind and-on striking rocks +uvned turtle, sinking stern first. The three man launched a dinghy and had a desperate fight to reach the land through, the heavy surf. They were -exhausted when th'cy reached the shore, but managed to walk to Mr. Riddiford's station, where thov were hospitably received and spout thV night. Yesterday they rctui-nocl to Wellington and reported' tlm the Maiwtii was a total loss. A report received, on Friday night gave ,:she-name!of: the.vessel ag -Matatua."
