EMPIRE DAIRIES.

DIRECTORS' CONFERENCE. EXTENSIVE OPERATIONS. During the past we 3k conferences of directors of Empire Dairies, Ltd., have been held, at which the Australian directors present were Mr. C. E. D. Meares, of New South Wales; Mr. A. W. Wilson, of Victoria; and Mr. P. Daley, of Queensland. The New Zealand directors were Messrs. W. Goodfellow, D. Fulton and C. J. Parlane.

The following statement dealing with the I operations of the company was issued:— ! "Empire Dairies is national and cosmo : p'olitan in its conception and development. Consignments of butter, cheese, eggs and pork are now being received from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Canada. In addition to the Central sales floor'in Tooley Street, London, the oldestablished dairy produce business of Sir John Mitchell has recently been acquired in Glasgow, and' Scottish cheese, as we'll as Empire produce, will be sold in that centre. The policy of decentralisation, commenced last year,. will be further developed by substantial direct shipments to West of England ports from both New Zealand and Australia.

"The turnover of the company has advanced rapidly since its formation late in 1929, and it is estimated that sales for the current year will exceed £3,500,000. . The definite lharketing foothold secured will prove of immense advantage to the producers of the several Dominions concerned, especially in view of the growing sentiment in favour of trade . within the Empire. Another assuring factor is the forthcoming election in Britain and the probability of a preferential tariff for goods and foodstuffs produced within the Empire. Further, assistance will be afforded the organisation by the discontinuance of the practice of blending Australian ..and New Zealand butters with foreign produce. "A branch office has' recently been opened in Montreal, Canada, for the securing of consignments from . co-operative companies for export to Great Britain, and also for. the purpose of. controlling any shipments of dairy produce sent to Canada by members of the company." Mr, Fu'lon was elected chairman for the ensuing year. The next meeting of the board of directors will be held in Australia.
