The death is announced of Mr. Alfred Eckhold, who was one of Otago's best Rugby half-backs. He first- represented the, province, in 1905, and took part in no less than 54 representative games. He also represented New Zealand in Australia .in 1907. In later years he wasmuch sought after by visiting teams as a referee.

Mr. Eckhold was also a prominent Otago representative cricketer for some years, being one of tli'e province's best bats. •He was married, with three children.
