INVERCARGILL SEAT.
COALITION CANDIDATE.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Eeporter.)
WELLINGTON, this day. ! In connection with the arrangements to be made by the Coalition forces to prevent vote-splitting, it is stated that overtures will be advanced immediately to secure straight-out contests in Mataura and Invercargill. To leave the sitting member for Mataura, Mr. D. McDougall, with none but a Labour opponent it is suggested that Colonel' J. Hargest, the Reform nominee, should be transferred to the Invercargill seat as a Coalition candidate, since the sitting member for that electorate, Mr. Vincent Ward, is not seeking -re-election.
If this arrangement is carried out it ■will - involve the voluntary retirement from the Invercargill contest of Mr. W. McChesney (United) and Mr. G. Agnew (Reform).
