CORNER FOR BUSY BEES

A NOVEL GIFT.

NOAH'S ARK NIGHTIE CASE,

(Conducted by TINKERBELL.)

Dear Girls, —

As each Christmas or birthday comes round I'm sure you find it very difficult to know what to give your very small friends. I have a very novel idea for you this weeSc. It is a nightdress case in the shape of Noah's Ark. I know they would just love to possess one. It is made of linen and has abright red roof, which lifts up so that the nightie can be popped tidily inside. The; walls arc a light cedar shade and the hull is bright blue. You will need embroidery cottons to match the linen and a skein each of cinnamon brown and black.

First of all cut out the linen according to the diagram. Half an inch is allowed for the turnings. Tack down a small neat hem all round the red roof piece, doing the sides first and then the two straight edges. Hem the tops and bottoms of the two cedar pieces, 'which aire the walls, and tack down a single quarter-inch turning along the sides. Fold the hull piece in half lengtliwise and join the sides with French seams. To make a French seam stitch the two edges together on the right side, then turn inside out and stitch again a quarter to half an inch from the edge. Next tack down .ft single quarter-inch turning all round the remaining edge. Now tack the walls into position in the hull, the hem of the wall being just under the turning, making sure they are in the centre of the hull. Blanket stitch all round the top of the boat, thu6 attaching the front wall to the front of the boat and the back wall to the back of the boat. Tack the walls together at each side and blanket stitch them together with cotton to match."

Fold the roof in half and stitch the top edges X and Y firmly to the top of the front wall at the points A and B. Tack the lower back edge of the roof to the back wall. Now blanket stitch in red, as before, all round the roof, fastening down the back, but leaving the front loose to open. Stitch together the ends of the boat projecting from the walls. And now for the finishing touches, draw on the front wall a door, two windows, Noah and two giraffes or anyother animals you would like. These figures are embroidered in black ano brown. The result of a little time and care will be a charming little case for a little girl's slumber wear.
