ANGLICAN SYNOD.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. DISARMAMENT CONFERENCE. The last session of the 26th Anglican Synod was opened yesterday,' and continued this afternoon in St. Mary's Parish Hall, Parnell, Archbishop Averill presiding. ■ < The Rev. F. G. Harvie was elected clerical secretary, and Mr. H. Graham lay secretary. Mr. C. J. Tunks' was elected chairman of committees, Mr. A. B. Roberton deputy-chairman, and Mr. J, W. Manning clerk of committees. Disarmament. In his presidential address Archbishop Averill spoke on disarmament, and hoped that the Synod would see its way to pass a resolution of support. Archdeacon Mac Murray gave notice of motion strongly commending international disarmament, and asking the New Zealand Government to instruct its' representatives to-do all in their power'to further disarmament at the forthcoming conference at Geneva next February. Parish Affairs. On the motion of Archdeacon Simkin the Synod passed the first reading , of _a bill to constitute Takapuna.a parish. It is at present a parochial district, .r- . Archdeacon Simkin also' moved ,the first reading of a bill to declare the parish of St. Alban, Dominion Road should cease to be a parish, and should become a parochial district until reconstituted a parish. . ~ A petition was presented objecting, to the parish being • reduced in status. On the : motion of .Archdeacon MacMurray a special committee was set up to hear ! a deputation-from' the. vestry of . St. Alban, before the second' reading of the bill was gone -.
