CRICKET.
TRANSFERRING OF NEW COACH SENIOR MATCHES COMMENCE OCTOBER 2-i. At a meeting of the management_ committee of the Auckland Cricket Association last night the auestion caine up as to whether the new cuach, T. Lyon, should be drafted from his club (Y.M.C.A.) to a weaker club. To a statement by Mr. P. Shaw that the idea of transferring him from Ms own club to another had not even been considered previously, Mr. N. C. Snedden said that such was not necessary, the association having the power to allot a coach to whatever club it considered advisable. No decision was reached on the matter. which was referred to the coach committee. who were required to bring down a recommendation. Eden Park, King's College and Devonport cricket grounds would be available for senior A grade matches on October 24. On Labour Day the Devonport grounds will not! be available for cricket, but if some other i ground, in addition to the already available 1 King's College and Eden Park grounds, can j be secured, a full round of senior matches will be plaved on that date. It will also be the endeavour of the association to get a start with the senior B matches on October 24. No matches below the senior grades can be commenced on Saturday week owing to the poor state of the wickets required. Entries for these grades will be open for a further week. A sub-committee was set up for the I-ur-pose of bringing forward a report on suitable dates for Plunket Shield matches. Applications for affiliation received from the Grey Lynn, Training College, Milne and Chovce and Pukekohe Clubs were granted. The Birkdale Club was granted permission to play a match with the Royal Oat Club at Birkdale on Labour Day. The Paeroa Club wrote asking for a club team to visit Paeroa on Labour Day. The matter was left in the hands of the country committee.
WELLINGTON SEASON OPENS SATURDAY. It was decided by the Wellington Cricket Association at its meeting on Monday night that its season in all grades wOl opte on Saturday next. The senior draw has been arranged as follows: —Kilbirnie t. Petone. University v. Institute, Old Boys v. Hutt. Wellington v. Midland.
