PRICES AT FRANKTON

ADVANCE IN BEEF,

Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report haing held their usual weekly stock sale at their Franktou saleyards on Tuesday, October 13, as under: — Fat Sheep.—There was a smaller yarding than usual, .but there was no alteration in quotations from last week. We sold fat woolly wethers at 17/11; fat hoggets, 14/6 to 16/; fat, woolly ewes, 10/6 to 12/6; inferior forward ewes, 6/ to 7/6. Store Sheep.—A small yarding. We sold two lines mixed aged woolly evvee with black-faced-lambs at. foot at 8/10 all counted, under good competition. Fat Cattle.-—There was a small yarding, and there was a sharp advance, prices being from 10/ to 30/ per head higher than late rates, especially in the good quality fat cow and heifer class. We sold fat steers at £8 12/6 to £9 5/; fat cows and heifers, £8 5/, £8, £7 l/; lighter sorts, £6 to £6 10/; light cows and heifers, £2 15/ to £5 7/6.Store Cattle. —A medium yarding which sold at late rates. Forward good quality cows, £2 15/ to £3 10/; inferior cows, 15/ to 30/; small Jersey yearling heifers, £3; crossbred Jersey yearling heifers, £2 5/; small Jersey yearlings, 27/6 to 30/; yearling bulls, 25/.to 45/. Fat Pigs.—There was a particularly heavy yarding of fat pigs, and a sharp decrease in prices resulted. Best heavy baconers made from £2 10/ to £2 14/; lighter, do., £2 to £2 7/6; porkers, ibest, 30/ to 37/6; ! light, 23/ to 28/. There was a good yarding of store and weaner pigs, and prices were firm at late rates. Medium stores, 23/ to 27/6; smaller, 18/ to 22/6; slips, 17/ to'£l; weaners, 10/ to 17/6.

Pigs: Prime baconers £2 8/ to £2 14/; medium, £2 2/ to £5 6/; light, 36/ to £22/; heavy porkers, 30/ to 34/; light, 26/ to 29/; heavy choppers, 32/ to £2 li/; stores, 24/ to 28/; slips, £1 to 23/; weaners, 12/ to 17/. i TAUMARUNUI. The yarding at the Taumarunui stock sale comprised 200 sheep, 50 cattle and 40 pigs. There was a fair demand for the weaner pigs, but the sheep were -hard to quit. Good' dairy heifers made up to £7 10/, but 12 nice two-year-old Black Poll bulls failed to make the reserve and were not sold under the hammer. Ewes and lambs made 11/, and prime wethers made 15/1. The following prices were realised:—Pigs: Weaners, 6/, 17/6, 13/, 14/, 15/, 16/, 17/6 to 19/6. Sheep: Prime wethers, 15/1; four and six-tooth wethers, 10/2; wether hoggets, 8/9; ewe hoggets, 10/9; ewes, with 100 per cent lambs, 11/. Cattle: Fat steers, £3 14/; fat oows, £6 6/; empty cows, 30/; dairy cows, £4 10/; dairy heifers, £4 10/, £6 5/, £6 10/ to £7 w. PAEROA. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report:—At our Paeroa , sale cattle came forward in increased* numbers, the pens being well filled. Competition was keener than the previous sales for all classes -of cattle, and there was a good sale with cattle selling at advanced values. Best dairy heifers, £7 10/ to £9 10/; others, £6 to £7 5/; backward sorts, £3 10/ to £5 5/; fat cows, £6 to £7 12/6; others, £4 15/ to £5 15/; forward cows, £3 to £4 5/; good store cows, £2 to £2 15/; boners, 15/ to £1 6/; two-year-old steers, £2 10/ to £3 6/; one-year-old steers, £1 8/ to £2 2/; yearling heifers. £3 to £3 15/; others, £2 5/ to £2 15/; bulls, £1 10/ to £6 6/.
