Russet Moor Wins Hurdles.

The eleven on the card faced the starter for the Trial Hurdles, and most confidence was placed in Moerangi, who had £369 invested on his chance. Whakama was next in demand, with £291, and then came Russet Moor (£174). Coming to the first fence Whakama was out in front, attended by Ruffles, Neil and Sub-editor. Going past the stand the order was Whakama and Ruffles (together), Cargen, Monetize, Neil and Sub-editor (abreast, Slump, Russet Moor, Nassock, Moerangi and Uage Boy, Racing along the back Ruffles took charge from Whakama, Monetize, Neil, Cargen, Russet Moor, Nassock, Slump, Moerangi, Subeditor and Page Boy. Whakama came down at the fence by the six-furlong post. Across the top the order was Ruffles, Monetize, Neil, Russet Moor, Nassock, Moerangi and Cargen. As they turned into the straight Ruffles was still in command from Monetize, Russet Moor, Nassock, Nei J ., Moerangi, Cargen, Slump, Page Boy and Sub-editor. Once over the last fence Russet Moor drew out and went on to win by two lengths from Monetize, who beat Nassock by three lengths. Ruffles was fourth, followed by Neil, Moerangi, Slump, Cargen, Page Boy : and Sub-editor.

Golden Wings Brilliant. Aspian, Bugle Call, Don't Lap, Gay Court and High Comedy were f not saddled up for the Great Northern Guineas and the public sorted out Bronze Eagle as having the best show, and the Brazen colt carried £1150. The next in demand was View Halloo with £715, Croupier (£367) and Golden Wings (£315). As they lined across the barrier the positions were Croupier, Bronze Eagle, King Colossus, Gibraltar, Golden Wings, Baroscope, Granado, Amber Link, Royal Artist and View Halloo. When the tapes lifted View Halloo was the quickest away, Golden Wings and Baroscope being handy. Going along the back Golden Wings hit the front from Bronze Eagle, Croupier, Baroscope, King Colossus, View Halloo, Royal Artist, Amber Link, Granado and Gibraltar. The "order across the top was the same, except that Croupier was on even terms with Bronze Eagle in second position. Golden Wings entered, the straight well clear of Bronze Eagle, who had a slight break on Croupier. Then came Baroscope, View Halloo, King Colossus, Royal Artist, Granado, Gibraltar and Amber Link. . Halfway down the straight it looked as if the favourite would get on terms with Golden Wings, but the latter responded gamely to Voitre's call and went on to win by half a length from Bronze Eagle. Croupier was four lengths further away third, and then came King Colossus, View Halloo, Baroscope, Royal Artist, Gibraltar, Granado and Amber Link. The •winner's performance was brilliant and the time, 1.37 3-5, a race record.

Dead Heat in Sprint. A fine field of 15 runners lined up for the Shorts Handicap, those declining, engagements being Consent, Mariawhenua, and Lucky Alice. Favouritism -was close between Ivarapoti (£579) and Supremacy ( £557). Orapai, with £446, was next in demand. Cadland was entrusted with £259, and Kozan £125. Impetuous and Lady Quex were the* smartest away, but as they raced for the top Biddy's Boy was the pilot from Honiton, Karapoti, Impetuous, Tea Chat, Orapai, Chromadyne, Hunting Day, Cadland, High Comedy, Supremacy, Gold Money, Chief Link, and Lady Quex. Biddy's Boy was first into the straight, and he was followed by Ivarapoti, Kozan, Honiton, Tea Chat, Chromadyne, and Cadland. A splendid race ensued over the final stage between Ivozan and Cadland, who passed the post on even terms. Biddy's Boy was three lengths behind the dead heaters, and then came High Comedy, Tea Chat, Ivarapoti, Orapai, Chief Link, Supremacy, Lady Quex, and Chromadyne.

Val entered the straight on terms and then came Historic, Taneriri, Motefe, Scatown and Cessation. In the run to the judge Historic got up in time to share equal honours with Prince Val, and Sea-town was two lengths behind the pair. Cessation was fourth, followed by Taurua, Little Doubt, Taneriri, Motere, Gay Cockade, Malahat and Te Hoia.

Over the Country. Every acceptor lined up to participate in the Hunters' Steeplechase and Nukutere came in for solid support. £620 being rung up against his number. Billy Boy ( £371) was second fancy and Town Beauty carried £312. Searamouehe drew investments totalling £104. As they went up the hill Winnigan was at the heaed of affairs, ' followed by Searamouehe, Lenaubin, Town Beauty, Billy Boy, King's Counsel, Day Lark, Nukutere and Domestic Trouble. At the first obstacle King's Counsel nearly came down. Over the double the order was Lenaubin, Winnigan, Town Beauty, Searamouehe, Billy Boy, Day Lark, Nukutere, King's Counsel and Domestic Trouble., The order along the back was much the same and going up the hill the second_ time Winnigan held sway from Searamouehe, Town Beauty, King's Counsel,, Nukutere, Lenaubin, Day Lark and Domestic Trouble. Day Lark tipped out at the first fence on the hill and Town Bea&vty led down on to the course proper from Nukutere, Searamouehe, Billy Boy and Winnigan. Around the last bend Nukutere was out in front, his nearest attendants being Town Beauty, Billy Boy and Searamouehe. The last named put in a good run, but could not reach the favourite by four lengths. Billy Boy was a length further back and then came Domestic Trouble, Town. Beauty, Winnigan, i King's Counsel and Lenaubin.
