WILL BE READY, Although, the failure of Auto Machine to do better than finish third in the Mark Memorial at the Auckland meeting in June was somewhat disappointing to those who had noted his impressive track work, the failure was contributed to by overconfidence on the part of his driver, and if he is driven with better judgment this month at the approaching Auckland meeting he should show himself to be a much better horse. The big races are 4.33 classes and will suit him down to the ground, and as A. Brown has him in great condition to be given the final tuning up the son of Machine Brick should get some of the money. It is quite on the cards that he will win both days.
PLENTY OF DASH. Gold Jacket is doing well in his preparation for the New Zealand Cup and he has now reached that stage in condition when he will improve rapidly. On Tuesday morning L. McMahon drove the Gold Bell gelding a mile and a half with the pace on all the way and the Cup horse paced in something like his best style. Gold Jacket is on 36yds in the New Zealand Cup, and on a time basis is rather harshly treated when compared with most of the other horses in the race. Handicapped on the same mark a» Wraekler, and receiving only 12yds from Harold Logan and Peter Bingen, does not make Gold Jacket's prospects read very promising. The Aucklander will be started at Alexandra Park this month, and no doubt it defends upon his form then whether he is sent to Addington for the Cup.
