BREWING IN U.S.A.

Economic Effect on Farming

Being Investigated.

HOPS AND BARLEY.

WASHINGTON, September 25.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. A. M. Hyde, announces that he will undertake an investigation of the economic results on agriculture of proposals to permit the manufacture of beer.

Mr. Hyde said he had received numerous inquiries as to the possible effect of the resumption of the pre-prohibition production of hops and barley, and he would attempt to determine how many farmers would be thus employed if the Prohibition Act were modified. "I am undertaking it purely as a personal matter," he added.
