CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES,
A young amateur wrestler, G. R. Groom, appeared on summons in tie Police Court this morning and admitted two charges of false pretences. He was convicted and ordered to pay £2 8/ costs.
The charges were that on two occasions : .-he- obtained 2/6 by falsely representing that a "pass-out check" to a wrestling match was good and valid. Detective Sergeant Kelly,"who prosecuted, said defendant -was'an amtfteuf wrestler' and, as such, had a pass entitling him to'gain admittance to' , a wrestling match free. One evening after entering the hall he went .out again, re-, ceiving a "pass-out check." He met a young man in Grey Avenue and sold him the check for 2/6. Another man wanted to know if defendant could get a check for him. Groom went inside again but could not get another check.
In the meantime the first young man found that he could not get in with the pass defendant had sold to him.
Groom was given eeven days in which to pay the costs. . .
