Sir Thomas Wilford, the New; Zealand High Commissioner in London, strongly protested against the League of Nations' increased expenditure and declared that New Zealand would welcome a reduction. FAVOURABLE ' ATTITUDE— <:■'■■ WASHINGTON, September 10/ - The Government of the United States is sympathetic: 'toward the proposal made by Signor Grandi, Italian Foreign, Minister, in the Assembly of the League" of Nations, for an armaments holiday, according to authoritative information obtained in Washington, but will take;, no definite stand on the matter, at the present time. ..• ■ V The American Government is thoroughly friendly toward Signor Grandi'e conception, and is prepared-to-exercise its influence on behalf of any movement which will aid. the prospects, of ' the' forthcoming; Disarmament Conference, but ; prefers ;'for' the present that the situation, surrounding the conference be kept fluid. ACCEPTANCE RATIFIED. MEXICO Atfj) THE LEAGUE. MEXICO CITY, September 10. The Senate has unanimously,ratified Mexico's acceptance of the invitation to join the League of Nations.
