LONDON, September 10. Dr. Macpherson, superintend-ent. of St. Mary's Hospital, at Portsmouth, claimed at an inquest concerning the death of a. boy of seven, Edward Cook, that the boy was actually dead for 40 minutes. He was then brought to life and lived, for 12i hours. .'. . ; ~ ,-,. " The boy's breathing' ceased under, an anaesthetic, whereupon - Dr. Macpherson opened the walls of the abdomen and massaged'the heart, causing it to repulsate and promote regular breathing. This allowed the removal of the boy to a ward, where he recovered sufficiently to recognise his mother, but later J 3 died-
