The bienniel examinations for employees in the first division of the Railway Department are being held in the lecture room of the Auckland railway station. The tests started on Monday and will close at the end of the week. A four-year-old horse owned by Messrs. Am bury, Ltd., was struck by a railway engine at the Captain Springs Road crossing, Te Papapa, this morning. The cart to which the horse was harnessed was not ; damaged and the driver escaped injuij. ; A veterinary surgeon was called, but it . was found necessary to destroy the i animal.
