"GOING ON SWIMMINGLY."

FINANCE INVESTIGATION

IDLE TALK OF BREAKDOWN.

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this dav.

The Prime Minister, on the adjournment of the Inter-party Finance Committee for lunch to-day, said the committee had during the morning considered a digest of the evidence, prepared by the secretariat. It was intended this afternoon to hear the chairman of the, Railway Board and the General Manager of Railways.

Mr. Forbes added that he expected members of the committee would wani to ask questions regarding the recommended stoppage of the various railway construction works. That would conclude the evidence. "From now on," he said, "we can settle down to deliberations."

Rumours were circulated in the Parliamentary lobbies this morning that the committee would reach a deadlock in its deliberations at 1 p.m., but thes? proved entirely unfounded. "Why, we have been going on swimmingly," remarked one of the delegates, when the possibility of a breakdown was mentioned to him, "and I think we will continue to do so."
