DAY IN PARLIAMENT.
BILLS INTRODUCED.
TRANSPORT CONTROL DEBATED
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Little progress with the bills on the Order Paper was made by the House in a three hours' sitting this afternoon. The house at 5.30 p.m. adjourned until 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, to enable the Inter-party Committee to complete its deliberations and report to the House. The inaugural report'of the Railway Board, containing sweeping recommendations for the stoppage of the construction of six, lines of railways, including the South Island Main Trunk connection, was presented, and a brief Ministerial explanation of the proposals was the signal for much banter and laughter from all sides of the House. The Dominion Life Assurance Office of New Zealand, Ltd Bill, a _ private measure, was read a second time and referred to a committee. In accordance with notice, the Hon. S. G. Smith introduced the Companies Empowering Amendment Bill. The Rural Intermediate Credit Amendment Bill was read a second time, as was the Taupiri Drainage and River District ■ Amendment, which proposes to abolish several drainage boards. The debate on the committal of the Transport Licensing Bill was inconclusive, and statements were again made to the Minister that if the objections of the Municipal Association were not heeded the measure would , not have much chance of passing.
