AGREEMENT REACHED.
ROPE AND. TWINE WORKERS
CONDITIONS'OF NEW AWARDS,
A Council of Conciliation was held yesterday at the .of the commissioner, Mr./R,, P. 'Bally; to .consider ,an application made: by the Auckland Rope and Twine Workers' Union for. a new award ■ for the Auckland district, hi respect to Donaghy's Rope and Twine Manufacturers' workers. "• The ; union assessors were Messrs. I. Sutherland and G. H; Caudrow. The employers Were represented by Messrs. S. E.,'Wright and, W/ Edmonds (manager of the conipariy).". ' '~ ";.■;•■■■■ # The : workers)• while not claiming increased rates of pay, were of the opinion that, if shorter hours of employment could be arranged generally, many of the'workers now unemployed, would be benefited.- It was also contended by the union that women workers '.who were now .employed had taken the place of many male operatives. A complete agreement between the parties''was reached. This will be forwarded to the Court of Arbitration for the purpose of Obtaining an award to operate for the ensuing two years.
